Sedation Dentistry in Akron

Man relaxes while getting x-rays because of sedation dentistry option at Chapel Hill Dental Care.

Over 70 family dentists refer their patients to Chapel Hill Dental Care – Joseph G Marcius DDS for sedation dentistry services.

Why would someone want to request sedation to help them through their oral care experience? Many of Dr. Joe’s patients have…

  • Endured painful or traumatic experiences at other dental offices
  • Advanced dental needs that are causing pain, discomfort, or embarrassment
  • Complex cases that require longer amounts of time to complete
  • Special medical needs
  • A phobia of dentists in general
  • Hypersensitive teeth or gag reflexes

About Our IV Sedation Dentistry Services

IV sedation is an excellent way for people to overcome their fear and anxiety of dental treatment. In fact, Dr. Joe has been an IV sedation dentist for over 25 years, completing hundreds of cases right here in our facility.

A typical sedation dentistry case allows Dr. Joe to work one-on-one with individual patients until their entire case is completed (usually within about four to five hours.) They are truly the only patient that he sees for the first half of the day. These complex care cases often include computer-guided dental implant surgery, extractions, bone or soft tissue grafting, periodontal therapy, root canals, cleanings, and more.

Dr. Joe has advanced cardiac life support and BLS training, as required to be a licensed sedation dentist in the state of Ohio. You are carefully monitored throughout the entire procedure, as you would be if you were in a hospital.

For individuals that have had a colonoscopy or similar sedative procedure in the past, the medications used in our practice wear off a bit faster. With amnesia as a side effect, you’re unlikely to remember anything at all. Although you will respond to having your name called, it will look more as if you are sleeping (you may even snore a bit!)

Other Sedation Alternatives

We also provide options of conscious oral sedation or laughing gas (nitrous oxide) for you to choose from. After becoming comfortable with our office and staff, many anxious patients “graduate” from IV sedation to oral or nitrous sedation during their recare appointments. That being said, we will never force you to choose a lighter level of sedative if that is not what you feel comfortable with.
