Dr. Joe has been placing dental implants for over 25 years, making him one of the most experienced implant dentists in the greater Akron area. At Chapel Hill Dental Care – Joseph G Marcius DDS, we continue to provide in-house surgery and restoration with the convenience of comfortable IV sedation.
What are Dental Implants?
Implants are artificial tooth roots that mimic the design and function of a natural smile. Their biocompatibility and extremely high success rate allows Dr. Joe to replace as few or as many teeth as necessary. For the majority of implant patients, the artificial teeth last for the rest of their life.
Computer Guided Implant Surgery
Thanks to our in-house iCat CT scanner, Dr. Joe can digitally plan your implant surgery with the aid of 3D imaging. This technology significantly reduces the length of your implant surgery and recovery time. After the computer guided implants are placed, a provisional or temporary prosthesis is installed over them. Once fully healed, the permanent crown, bridge, or denture is anchored into place.
Types of Implant Restorations
The strength and integrity of dental implants are made to withstand normal pressures of biting and chewing. As such, we can use fewer implants than teeth when it comes to restoring your entire smile. Some of the types of restorations that Dr. Jo may recommend for your implants include:
Single Tooth Crowns — An individual dental implant functions as if it were a single tooth root. When we place a porcelain crown over the implant, the entire unit mimics the function and appearance of a natural tooth. Caring for it is just as easy!
Multiple Tooth Bridges — Fixed implant bridges can replace missing teeth with as few as two implants. If more teeth are missing, up to seven or nine implants can be placed across the jaw to support an entire, single-unit bridge that spans from one side of the smile to the other.
Implant Supported Dentures — With as few as four implants, a fixed denture or retained overdenture can stay securely seated all day long. Depending on the type of implant retained or supported denture that you choose, you also have the option to request a removable prosthesis that clips in and out on top of implant abutments or a bar. Many people prefer the permanent option where the denture stays screwed into place on top of the implant abutments.
“I’m Not a Candidate for Dental Implants”
Dr. Joe performs supportive therapies such as soft tissue grafts and osseous surgery to ensure the success and aesthetics of each implant, expanding the options our patients have for placement sites. Even if another dentist has doubted your qualification as an implant patient, iCat 3D imaging can maximize the experience and provide the service to individuals that once thought implants were never an option.
